Salmon Sculpture, click to MAGNIFY! On Salmon Weir Bridge we have a good view of the weir proper. It's specially constructed to allow passage for the Atlantic Salmon to Lake Corrib, which lies straight ahead.

Flyfishing at the Salmon Weir, click to MAGNIFY!It's an excellent place to do a spot of fly-fishing, licenses for which can be obtained from Galway Salmon Weir Fishery. Brown Trout fishing does not require a licence.



Mercy ConventTurning right we see the Mercy Convent. The nun's do play an important role in education and community care.

St. Nicholas ChurchThe spire of St. Nicholas Church is visible further to the right.


Galway Cathedral Unmissable on Galway's skyline is the Cathedral, with its prominent dome measuring 145ft to the top of the cross.

NUIG University GroundsThe wide expanse of green seen on the right of the Cathedral belongs to Galway University and is part of a nice walk along the River Corrib. The walk leads past the Universities student residences.
