A
short drive from Galway will bring you to the suburb of Salthill,
which is one of Ireland's
most popular Seaside resorts.
The
horse and cart on the left were seen on the road to Salthill. In
the early 20th century Salthill was still separated by farmland
from Galway, until the arrival of the railway brought increased
prosperity to the whole region and the city expanded.
The
beaches in Salthill are safe for children and the 2 1/2 mile long
promenade is the perfect spot to go for a stroll.
Salthill's
numerous sporting facilities include the Galway golf course, mini
golf and the Blackrock diving and swimming area.
The
Leisureland entertainment complex is a sure winner with children.
It has a 25 meter indoor swimming pool and children's play area, including
water slide.
A
fun fair is held outside Leisureland during the summer months. Seapoint
Leisure Center and Claude's Casino provide 'rainy day entertainment'
with a nice variety of slot machines and video games to rival Las
Vegas.
Salthill
has a generous share of good live music pubs and nightclubs and restaurants.
The 'Liquid' nightclub for example regularly features top DJ's from
across the continent.
Ballroom dancing is being offered in selected hotels.
There
is a range of fine hotels overlooking Galway Bay, some offering full
conference facilities (for up to 1000 delegates).
An increasing number of luxury apartments are being built in the
Salthill area.
