Turning
left at the top of Eyre Square you quickly reach William Street.
The recent pedestrianization of this part of Galway invites leisurely
shopping trips amongst the cities medieval heritage.
On
the right-hand side in this image there is
Treasure Chest. This delightful shop specializes in Irish crafts,
among them Waterford and Galway Crystalware.
Listening
to a street musician can be a welcome diversion after all this busy
shopping. This accordion player has been entertaining the crowds
for many years, yet most passersby don't realize that he is blind.
Hear
his play by clicking
here and pressing the start button.
At
the end of William Street is Lynch's Castle. This fine building (now
a branch of Allied Irish Bank) dates from ca. 1320 AD. The name 'Lynch'
will make another appearance when we reach St. Nicholas Church. |
